World War 1. 1924 - 1918.France, Silk embroidered
cards from the Front line in France. These cards were made by local French
people and sold to the British Soldiers defending the French Frontline. Most
of these cards were hand written to their families back home in Blighty
(Britain)and on the reverse they say "On Active Service".Sadly many
of the card writers never went home again, as they were killed in action
against the German invaders. These cards are an Historical record of
the terrible conditions our Soldiers endured in the Trenches, written
in their own hand.

KING ALBERTS BOOK /.Rare First edition..Christmas 1914.The reading inside
says >"These books were made for the benefit of the Daily Telegraph
Belgian Fund.A tribute to the Belgian King and people from representative
men and women throughout the World.A tribute of admiration to Belgium
on the heroic and ever memorable share she has taken in the War which
now convulses Europe" Belgium paid a terrible price, the beautiful
country was laid waste, harvests that were ready trod into the ground, the
villages given up in flames. The Belgium cities have been anhialated,a
country in utter desolation,a complete nation in ruin.A little kingdom
that kept the pledge and died for it." The colour plates inside are
wonderful, even though the actual cream hessian cover of the book is a
bit grubby with a half inch tear on the bottom of the spine..The list
of contributors reads like a who's who!! eg.Arthur Rackham famous coloured
plate entitled "UNCONQUERABLE"etc.£50 GB pounds |
