Please remember that each badge represents an Important historical era. Many
badges have small features that have been incorporated into the badge
by the designers and makers many years ago to commemorate for example
a famous battle or event that the particular Regiment fought in.Try to
investigate the history of the badge if at all possible, as you may not
be aware of the Regiments past Glories on the Battlefields. Also the inter
connections between Regiments that may have fought together or may have
been unified years earlier/ All of this information contained in each
Badge is now British History, and, at the present time it is very sad
to see so many Ancient Regiments disappearing under the mantle of the
unpopular Amalgamations.Who can forget the wonderful soul stirring names
such as The South Wales Borderers,The Great Connaught Rangers or The Black
Watch? However these names will never die, as they will live forever through
the Badges and Insignia that we are most fortunate to be able to collect
and preserve as a fitting memorial to the individual Regiments glorious
past.

Please remember that each badge represents an Important historical
era. Many badges have small features that have been incorporated into
the badge by the designers and makers many years ago to commemorate
for example a famous battle or event that the particular Regiment fought
in.Try to investigate the history of the badge if at all possible, as
you may not be aware of the Regiments past Glories on the Battlefields. Also
the inter connections between Regiments that may have fought together
or may have been unified years earlier/ All of this information contained
in each Badge is now British History, and, at the present time it is
very sad to see so many Ancient Regiments disappearing under the mantle
of the unpopular Amalgamations.Who can forget the wonderful soul stirring
names such as The South Wales Borderers,The Great Connaught Rangers
or The Black Watch? However these names will never die, as they will
live forever through the Badges and Insignia that we are most fortunate
to be able to collect and preserve as a fitting memorial to the individual
Regiments glorious past.
***We have an enviable reputation for supplying good quality old badges

How
to start a collection of Military Cap badges and Helmet Plate.
..
Although years ago a cap badge could be bought on a market
stall for a Shilling piece, sadly those days are now well and truly
gone. However, compared to other fields of Antiques, collecting Cap badges
is still a fairly cheap hobby, and can be most enjoyable and rewarding. One
good thing about this hobby, you can start at any time of your life,
ladies included,by just buying one or two badges, although you must
be warned that this Hobby can be very addictive.! Most Cap badge enthusiasts, usually
have a specific purpose,ie.to buy every badge associated with a particular
period of History or specific battles and even covering the whole of
the 2 World Wars..Some decide to buy only Cavalry Regiments or Infantry, others
only Victorian Helmet plates and Glengarries. Two ladies we knew only
bought badges depicting an Animal or Bird, and they were years trying
to complete their full collection. One of the most popular areas are
surely all badges of the First World War..This period of our history
had something for everyone, from the Royal Flying Corps to the great
Scottish Regiments, where some of the most handsome badges can be found..The
Scottish regiments usually had large white metal badges, and many collectors
look on Scottish badges as some of the most artistic..
Ireland again, had some wonderful old regiments, including one of their
greatest - The Connaught Rangers - always a great favourite, and rightly
so.The Welsh Regiments have some very colouful badges and also very
poignant badges, who can ever forget one of the greatest of all British
regiments,The South Wales Borderers, whose names will forever be associated
with the Battle of Rorkes Drift, whose courage went over and above the
call of duty after the terrible slaughter of British Troops at Isandhwlana
in 1879, and, who by sheer courage and valour, kept the British Flag
flying over South Africa for Queen Victoria.
English regimental badges will keep a collector busy for years, as nearly
every County of England had a few Regiments, including the East and West,North
and South of some of the larger counties of England, and with the additional
Yeomanry and Volunteer regiments as well. Then there are the City of
London Regiments and the County of London Regiments, here again a very
large amount of badges available for each area.
One of the attractions of collecting 2nd World War badges, must surely
be the Special Service badges. From the Long Range Desert Group to Popskis
Private Army and of course The SAS, a perennial favourite alongside
the 17th -21st Lancers.
Well perhaps we have given you a little insight and a taster into the
attractions of collecting Military cap badges and insignia,we know you
will spend many a pleasant afternoon roaming around the Antique fairs
on the lookout for that elusive badge, and also you could become part
of a sociable aspect of collecting, as many areas have their own Military
associations who meet regularly to discuss and "swap" with
friends their latest acquisitions and finds..So, Good Luck and Good
Hunting from Glamorgan antiques website..
